Overview

Heartwrench Advance is a short game inspired by Mega Man and Shovel Knight, and following the aesthetic of classic Game Boy Advance titles like Drill Dozer, Wario Land 4 and Super Mario Advance 2, in which you crank, twist, leap and smash your way through challenging platforming scenarios.

No generative AI was used in the making of Heartwrench Advance. This project is a showcase of my development skills including C/C++ programming, art direction, character design, animation, and level design.

Heartwrench Advance was designed for and is intended to be played on Nintendo's Game Boy Advance handheld console. You may experience lag in some areas while playing the browser version.

If you don't have access to EZ-Flash or equivalent hardware for running .gba files on a Game Boy Advance, Heartwrench Advance can be run on a GBA emulator such as mGBA.

I'd pay for a full version <3

Thank you :)

This is absolutely an amazing game but I have some problems while I was only able to get this game to run on the Pizza Boy GBA Emulator it wasn't able to run on the MyBoy GBA Emulator on Android I have the official GBA bios on that emulator and it gets passed the logo screen from the BIOS but then it just gets stuck on a black screen because I really want to play it on that emulator since that emulator is smaller in size compared to Pizza Boy and it runs better on my phone compared to that emulator but other than that like I said before this is an amazing game.

Thanks for letting me know!

Amazing game! Art, level design and game feel are great! I always have a good time finding secret passages so this really hit the spot.

Thank you for playing!

I really need this game to be complete lol I loved how you can feel the weight of the swing and in the movement.

Loved it and I jut played 2 minutes of it, I hope you make more retro games,

Thanks for playing!

Great game. Congratulations and thank you for these stressful couple of hours! I loved it! Now, where's the rest? We need moar. xD

Great game indeed. I never had much patience for challenging platformers - I love them as much as I hate them - but this game pushed me to try and try and try again until the end. Very good indeed.

And now I am waiting for more caves, or whatever, in those islands. And more islands, by the way.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge!

This game is phenomenal!

Thank you for playing!

This genuinely so much fun and so polished that it could be a high quality Nintendo Switch game. Kudos!

Wow thank you so much!

This such a high quality, stellar game! I think we will be seeing your name in the best seller category somewhere soon!

LOL thanks bro!

Amazing work! Loved the art style and the juicyness feeling of the game!

Thank you for playing!

Is there a plan to make this a full game ALA Goodboy Galaxy. I loved playing this on my GBA and was so sad it ended after 1 level. It is such a fun and charming platformer and reminded me quite a bit of Celeste.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your kind words! At the moment I am working full time on my development portfolio, but it's my intent to continue work on Heartwrench down the line. The project is very special to me and I would love to build it out into a complete experience.

Woah, this looks like fun! Any chance of a browser port releasing?

Thanks! The game is now supported in browser, thanks to some help from the Goodboy Galaxy team.

This is super impressive already, looks and plays great. Only nitpick is the lag in certain parts. I really hope you continue on to a full game. And I couldn't resist doing a few attempts at the stage. Plays great on MiSTer FPGA.

1:22 is a fantastic time! Glad you enjoyed it. Optimizations are under way for the laggy areas, thank you for the feedback.
